Visas and passwords
Citizens from some non-EU countries may need a Visa to enter Croatia.

Time
Croatia is on Central European Time (GMT+1).
Climate
Continental climate. The average summer temperature is about 20° C. The
average maximum daily temperature in July is 27°C (but it could also reach
over 30° C). The average morning temperature is 14°C. At that time of
the year there is a possibility of local showers.
Health and emergencies
As always the SISR recommends that participants take out their own insurance
to cover any travel or health problems.
National currency
Croatian national currency is the kuna (KN). The current exchange rate
is approx. 7.3 kunas for 1 euro.
Change
Money can be exchanged in the banks or exchange offices, or can be drawn
from the cash machines.
Credit cards
Major credit cards are accepted (VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS, DINERS)
in the shops, restaurants and hotels.
Warning: Payment for accomodation and
meals in student lodging "Cvjetno naselje" = CASH ONLY
Banking hours
Banks are generally open Mondays to Fridays from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm.
Post offices
Post offices are generally open Mondays to Fridays from 8.00 am to 8.00
pm.
Electricity
Electric appliances will work in Croatia if you adapt and convert them
to run on 22O V AC with two round prongs on the plug.
Phoning
If you want to call Croatia from abroad the international code is 00385.
Telephone can be bought from tobaconists, at newspaper kiosks or in the
post offices.
Photocopying
Commercial photocopying facilities are available in the vicinity of the
conference site.
E-mail
Facilities for using e-mail will be available at the conference site.
International newspaper
The widest collection of international newspapers can be found at "Algoritam"
bookstore located at Gajeva 1. street, near the main city square, just
beside the "Dubrovnik" hotel.
Shops
Shops are generally open Mondays to Fridays from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm. Many
shops in the center of the city are open even in Saturday, usualy from
8.00 am to 2.00 pm.

Public transportation
Zagreb has a public transport service based on trams and buses. Ticket
fare is about Kn 6.50 (0.9 euros) if it is bought in tobacco shops and
at the news-stands or Kn 8.00 (1.2 euros) if bought in tram or bus. Tickets
are valid 90 minutes after being stamped (tickets have to be stamped as
soon as you enter the car in the machine which is located near the entrance)
regardless of the number of the stops or if you change buses or trams.
There is also a daily ticket at a price of 18 Kn (about 2.5 euros) which
is valid for the whole day (the day in which it is stamped); this ticket
is also valid for night lines until 4.00 am next day. ZET
(Zagreb Electric Tram) will provide free of charge three-day tickets for
the participants of the conference.
Tipping
A service charge is already included in restaurant bills, but it is customary
to round off a restaurant bill. For special services rendered by hotel
personnel one usually tips between 20 and 50 Kn.
